In keeping with the School's commitment to the development of the creative and artistic self, the dance department offers ample opportunities for both the novice and the advanced dancer. Students from a wide range of backgrounds participate in the dance program. Many come with extensive backgrounds. Others take dance courses with little or no previous experience. For all students, the focus of the department's instruction is on learning the craft, technique, and discipline of dance. Emphasis is placed on building a foundation from which students explore a new vocabulary.

Truly dedicated and committed dance students will have the opportunity to develop their technical skills to the performance level. They may also create and choreograph dance works. Whether students begin with jazz dance, modern dance, or ballet, they will work with a highly trained professional dancer in the dance studio in the Main Building.

Dance courses fulfill the arts requirement.
