Mock '11 to play pro hockey for Connecticut Whale

Stephanie Mock '11 will begin her professional ice hockey career just down the road from Hotchkiss, signing a contract to play the 2017-2018 season for the Connecticut Whale.

The Whale play in the recently founded National Women's Hockey League, which includes four teams in the northeast: the Whale, the Boston Pride, the Buffalo Beauts, and the New York Riveters. The team played its first season in Stamford, CT, before moving to their current home in North Branford.

The league plays an 18-game regular season schedule, with all games played on the weekends. The four teams then compete in two rounds of playoffs, with the winning team receiving the Isobel Cup.

Mock is the second Bearcat to join the new league, following in the footsteps of Kelsie Fralick '11, who played for the Pride in their inaugural season, where they won the Isobel Cup.

At both Yale and Hotchkiss, Mock had a standout career. She earned the Melissa Goss Simonds '79 Hockey Award for both her Upper Mid and Senior seasons, and also received the Girls' Senior Athletic Award.

She graduated from Yale with a degree in psychology and pre-med studies, and worked briefly in St. Louis before returning home to join the Whale.
