Boys and Girls Swimming Off to a Strong Start

Hotchkiss swimming and diving got off to a strong start this past weekend as both boys and girls teams came away with decisive victories against Western New England rivals, Williston Northampton and Northfield Mount Hermon, in the opening meet of the 2006-07 season, outscoring their opponents 258 points to 113. With the double wins Tom Trethaway ’75, head coach of the girls varsity team for the past 19 years, earned his 100th victory!

Harvard's Rathgeber Chosen to U.S. Pan-American Games Team

USA Swimming has announced that Harvard junior Geoff Rathgeber [Hotchkiss '04] has been chosen as one of 25 swimmers to represent the United States at the 2007 Pan American Games in July in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Sailing Finishes as Top New England School at Nationals

The Hotchkiss sailing team placed an impressive 5th and was the top New England team at the High School National Team Race Championship for the Toby Baker trophy on Martha's Vineyard last weekend.

Boys JV and Third Lacrosse Tearing Up the Fields

It's been quite a year for Hotchkiss JV and third teams, and particularly for boys lacrosse. Both the boys JV and boys third lacrosse teams head into their final week of play with perfect records of 10-0 and 11-0 respectively.

Girls Track Competes at Penn Relays

Hotchkiss girls track and field was excited and proud to send a select group of athletes to the 112th Penn Relay Carnival in Philadelphia on April 26th. With esteemed opponents from all over the U.S. and the Caribbean, Hotchkiss’s 4x100m and 4x400m teams were ready for the challenge when their race day came on Thursday, taking third place in both events.

Hotchkiss Hosts Sailing New Englands

Hotchkiss sailing finished fourth in New England as they hosted the annual Mallory Cup on Lake Wononscopomuc this past weekend. The top five teams from Sunday, including the Bearcats, advance to the National Fleet Race Championship, to be held at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club in Michigan in May.

Hotchkiss Lacrosse Improves to 2-0 In Western New England

The Hotchkiss Boys Lacrosse Team came out strong in the second half on Saturday against NMH and managed a 12-2 victory over the Hoggers. The Bearcats' season record in Western New England improves to 2-0. Coming up in the next couple weeks will be tough Brunswick and Salisbury squads.

Another Strong Squad for Girls Varsity Tennis

The Girls Varsity Tennis Team returns 11 players from an undefeated 2005 team. With the strength of core returning players and the addition of three very talented newcomers, the squad looks strong as they pursue a second consecutive Founders League title and hopes for a New England Championship.

Bearcat Football Earns Victory at Loomis

On a beautiful September evening, the Bearcats traveled to Windsor and came away with an impressive 38-6 victory over league rival Loomis Chaffee. Randy Wright ('06) raced 44 yards on the second play from scrimmage to set the tone for the evening. Senior Ryan Burns scored from 18 yards out on the next play to put the Bearcats in front. Tim Risner ('06) kicked the P.A.T. to make the score 7-0.

Volleyball Off to a Strong 2-0 Start

The varsity volleyball team starts the new season with nine returning players and the most experience in several years. Chloe McLean is one of the best all around players in New England and will team with fellow co-captain and middle blocker Katonah Coster to lead the squad this fall.

Lacrosse Wins Third Founders Title in Six Years

With a win over Choate on May 25, the 2005 Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team won their third Founders League title since 2000, and finished the season with an impressive 11-3 record.
