Student Bank Accounts

Each student is required to have a Hotchkiss School One Card, as it serves as his or her photo ID and dorm access card. Internal school purchases can also be made with the Hotchkiss School One Card, a multipurpose debit card that covers most of your student’s incidental and personal spending at the School. The Hotchkiss School One Card may also be used for the laundry machines in the dorms. Most School vendors will accept cash and checks, but we strongly advise that students use the debit card.

The Hotchkiss One Card System allows parents to control the amount of funds available to students, and students can deposit their own funds for future withdrawal. We believe this system gives students a valuable and realistic experience with handling money (without handling cash) and offers parents greater control over a student’s miscellaneous spending.

The balance on The Hotchkiss School One Card at the end of the program will be returned to the student in cash before their departure from campus. The Summer Portals office will email the Student Account # used as the Student ID on the One Card website about two weeks before the start of Summer Portals.

Before you come to campus

Before arriving on campus, download the Summer Portals Student Handbook. All students and parents are expected to read the handbook well in advance of arriving on campus.

Because ticks are common in this region during the summer months, we offer this information regarding Lyme Disease and an outline of preventative steps:

Getting here

Check-in for students are on Sundays from 9 a.m. to Noon. Parents and guardians are welcome to come with their children to help them settle in. We allow one day early arrival for students who are flying to get to campus.

Parents or guardians should pick up students by noon on the final day of the program.

Airport shuttles: specific guidelines need to be met if students intend to utilize the JFK Shuttle (from and to the airport). Please click "Download Travel Information" (below) for complete details. It is important to note that airport shuttles are from and to JFK only.

Regional airports: both Bradley International in Hartford, CT, and Westchester County Airport in White Plains, NY, are an hour and thirty minutes from campus. New York City airports are approximately two hours and fifteen minutes from campus.

Please submit the completed online student travel form in your account as soon the student’s travel plans are confirmed.
