At The Hotchkiss School, athletics are an important part of our identity and school spirit. We are proud of our Bearcats and their award-winning athletic skills. More than anything, we are proud to be a Connecticut private high school with an athletic community that focuses on perseverance, team spirit, and personal integrity.
Our expansive athletics programs run year-round, with options for students to participate and grow alongside their teammates. With 94% of students participating in a team sport, athletics are truly part of The Hotchkiss School experience. You'll find students cheering each other on during matches, competing in off-season intramural teams, and challenging themselves beyond what they thought possible.
Our Teams
Spring
During the spring, students welcome the changing season with a host of exciting outdoor sports. These include baseball, lacrosse, rowing, sailing, tennis, track and field, golf and ultimate frisbee. Every Bearcat balances rigorous academics with competitive athletics to achieve and exceed their personal best.
Fall
As the school year starts, students can choose from field hockey, cross country, mountain biking, football, soccer and volleyball. Several of these sports offer teams for boys and girls. Practices and games are balanced with rigorous academic schedules, offering students the chance to learn new skills, form valuable team relationships, and grow through healthy competition.
Winter
In the winter months, students can enjoy competing in basketball, hockey, squash, swimming and diving, and wrestling. These indoor sports offer invaluable opportunities for students to stay active and healthy during the winter, keeping teamwork and a competitive spirit alive and well on campus.
