Mamma Mia! Garners Three Halo Awards, Additional Nominations for CT High School Theater

For nineteen years running, Seven Angels Theatre in Waterbury has held the Seven Angels Theatre High School Halo Awards, recognizing high school theater productions from schools all across the state. 

The Hotchkiss Dramatic Association’s Winter 2022 musical production, Mamma Mia! was nominated this year in twelve categories, walking away with three awards at the ceremony at the Seven Angels Theatre on June 1. Several students attended accompanied by MK Lawson, instructor in theatre and humanities and director of Mamma Mia! and Derek Brashears, resident designer and director of the theatre program.  Winners include Kate Moran ’23 for The Show Must Go On award; the HDA technical crew members Raven Hong ’22, Reka Ladanyi ’22, Natha Araujo ’23, Aster Lufkin ’23, Sierra Atkins ’24, Huntyr Ammons ’25, Driseth Anderson ’25, Danielle Attoh ’25, Eliott Hu ’25, Kris Lambert ’25, Rosie Oberto ’25, and Sonia Rashid ’25 for Best Set Design and Execution; Stella del Mazza Rocha ’25, Parth Jain ’24, and Aiden Wang ’25 for Best Specialty Ensemble.

Capping off the evening’s award ceremony in dramatic fashion, Tori Murray, who played the part of Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia! performed "The Winner Takes it All” on stage, receiving the only standing ovation of the evening from the crowd in attendance.
