The Hotchkiss Dramatic Association is pleased to present The Tempest by William Shakespeare Feb. 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 16 at 2:30 p.m. The production is directed by Parker Reed, instructor in English and theatre at Hotchkiss, and features Charles D. Noyes ‘78, retired instructor in art, as Prospero.

The Tempest explores love and service, power and humility, and revenge and reconciliation. Written in 1611, it offers some of Shakespeare’s most sublime lines – “We are such stuff / As dreams are made on” – and his silliest – “I have been in such a pickle since I saw you last”. The romance has been staged at Hotchkiss twice before (1951 and 1972). This production embraces the kind of theatrical spectacle that Shakespeare might have envisioned with an inspiring cast, including Noyes, 12 Hotchkiss students ranging from Preps to Seniors, three faculty children; original music by Desmond Teague ‘20 and Kelly Zuo '20; hand-made costumes by Tory Elvin; imaginative special effects created by Luke Gardiner ‘21; mystical woodworking by local craftsman C. Bradley; and surprise contributions from past spirits of the Hotchkiss Dramatic Association.

All performances take place in Walker Auditorium. Tickets are on sale at the door: $10; $5 for students and seniors, cash or check only. The Sunday matinee performance will benefit an organization to be announced.

Founded in 1891, The Hotchkiss School is a coeducational boarding school, located at 11 Interlaken Road in Lakeville, Connecticut. Walker Auditorium is located on the lower level of the Main Building. For more information on this and other arts events at The Hotchkiss School call 860-435-4423.
