The Hotchkiss Philharmonic Orchestra is thrilled to welcome internationally renowned cellist Alexander Hülshoff as soloist and conductor for a special concert on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Katherine M. Elfers Hall, Esther Eastman Music Center. The program features works by Haydn, Mozart, and Piazzolla, and admission is free. The special 2025-2026 concert season marks the 20th Anniversary of the breathtaking Katherine M. Elfers Hall and the state-of-the-art Esther Eastman Music Center.
German cellist Alexander Hülshoff is celebrated for his expressive artistry and powerful, nuanced sound, performing with leading orchestras around the world, including the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, the Tel Aviv Soloist Ensemble, and many others. He has appeared in renowned venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Wigmore Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In addition to an extensive career as a soloist and chamber musician, Hülshoff serves as Artistic Director of Villa Musica and the Kloster Kamp Chamber Music Festival in Germany, and has a prolific discography covering works by Brahms, Beethoven, Shostakovich, and more.
Founded in 2018 through the generosity of Barbara Walsh Hostetter ’77 and Amos Hostetter, the Hotchkiss Philharmonic Orchestra brings together professional musicians and talented Hotchkiss students, providing a unique opportunity for young artists to perform alongside world-class performers. Its concerts, always free and open to the public, enrich the cultural life of the Hotchkiss community.
