Piano Students Enjoy Unique Master Class at Yale
Hotchkiss Piano Masterclass at Yale

A group of four Hotchkiss piano students enjoyed the unique opportunity to attend a master class with Boris Berman, distinguished professor and head of the piano program at the Yale School of Music.

Jeremy Cao ’28, Irene Zeng ’26, Emma Liu ’26, and Victoria Fang ’25 worked on pieces by Prokofiev and Schumann during the three-hour masterclass, which was held in Leigh Hall on Yale's campus on Dec. 8.

Berman regularly appears with orchestras, on recital series, and at festivals around the world. An active recording artist and Grammy Award nominee, Berman was the first pianist to record Prokofiev’s complete solo piano works. At the Yale School of Music, Berman teaches a studio of graduate students, coaches chamber groups, and heads the Piano Department. He is the artistic director of the School’s Horowitz Piano Series and frequently gives solo and collaborative performances as part of that series and others. Berman regularly performs and coaches at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival/Yale Summer School of Music, teaches master classes throughout the world, and adjudicates national and international competitions.
