Hotchkiss musicians win state competition

Isabella Deng ’27 (flute), Max Salzinger ’25 (cello), and Olivia Zhang ’25 (clarinet) won the Connecticut round of the Music Teachers National Association competition. As Connecticut representatives, they will advance to the Northeast regional round and compete against winners of 14 other states in early December.

Hotchkiss congratulates these three talented musicians!

Isabella, Max, and Olivia performed in Katherine M. Elfers Hall during the season opener of the Hotchkiss Philharmonic on Nov. 4. As part of the Philharmonic Orchestra, they have the unique opportunity to work and perform alongside world-class artists. Upcoming Philharmonic concerts this season will take place on February 17, 2024 and May 4, 2024.

These three Bearcats will perform in various concerts throughout the fall, and they will continue to hone their craft under the leadership of Fabio Witkowski, head of the visual and performing arts department, director of music technology, instructor in piano, and Joanne Eastman Sohrweide Chair.
