Pierre Yoo
Pierre Yoo joined the Hotchkiss Bearcat community in the fall of 2011 as a chemistry instructor and the head coach of the boys’ cross country team. Presently, he also serves as co-director of Pluralism and Community and the head of Edelman Dormitory. He has also served as the assistant coach of track and field. He and his wife are the proud parents of two alumnae of The Hotchkiss School from the classes of 2021 and 2023.
In the fall of 2021 and 2023, he energized the members of the boys’ cross country team to capture the team’s first two Founders League Championships in school history. Since 2011, the Bearcats have finished on the team podium for the top four teams at the New England Division I (NEPSTA) Championships in 2011, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2023. During his coaching tenure, four different boys have set new Hotchkiss School course records on the cross country course, and two boys and two girls have set new school records in the 1500m and 3000m on the track.
He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton. He has been teaching science, coaching, advising, and living in the dormitory since starting his teaching career in 1993. He taught at his alma mater, The Hill School, for five years, The Thacher School for six years, and St. George’s School for seven years. At St. George’s School, he served as the head track and field coach and led the girls’ track and field team to the NEPSTA Division III Championships in 2010 and 2011; these were the first NEPSTA championships in school history for the girls’ team.
