Mike Eckert has taught AP U.S. History and courses in the humanities program at Hotchkiss since 2013. Mr. Eckert has served as the associate dean of academic life, director of the Hotchkiss Summer Faculty Symposium, and is currently the director of the Class of 1964 Teaching and Learning Center. He previously taught both English and history at Avon Old Farms School, the American Overseas School of Rome, and Blair Academy and holds an A.B. from Harvard College and an M.A. in educational leadership from The Klingenstein Center at Teachers College, Columbia University. Mr. Eckert coaches varsity lacrosse and lives in Redlich Dormitory with his wife, Heather, three sons, Reece, Cormac, and Mather, and his loyal golden retriever, Jambo.

Coaching Profile: Mike Eckert started teaching and coaching at Hotchkiss in 2013, having previously worked at Avon Old Farms (CT), the American Overseas School of Rome (Italy), and Blair Academy (NJ). He grew up in Pittsford, NY where he played football and lacrosse, earning All-America honors as a senior attackman and then matriculating to Harvard University where he was a four-year starter. As a senior, Coach Eckert co-captained the 1996 team to the quarter-finals of the NCAA tournament, was named Ivy League Co-Player of the Year (with Jesse Hubbard), First Team All-Ivy, New England Player of the Year and USILA Second Team All-America. He earned All-Ivy accolades all four years (2nd Team in ‘93 and ‘95) and was First Team All-New England in ‘95 and ‘96. He graduated as the program’s all time leader in assists and points and was inducted into the the Harvard Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. At Hotchkiss, he teaches humanities prep history and AP U.S. History and is the Associate Dean of Academic Life.
