A late goal by the visitors prevented girls varsity hockey from capturing their first win of the season as they finished with a 1-1 tie against NMH on Dec. 2.
After weathering an early storm from the Hoggers, Hotchkiss (0-1-1) responded and controlled possession for much of the game, with Jillian Mazzocca '19 finding the back of the net midway through the second period for the 1-0 lead.
Goalie Lindsay Reed '18 produced another fine effort, stopping 27 of 28 shots on the day. The only NMH goal came off a rebound early in the third period.
Mazzocca and forward Gracyn Campbell '18 led all Bearcats in shots on goal with five and six, respectively. Sandrine Brien, Abby Hillebrecht '19, Stephanie O'Brien '18, and Maddie Rego '19 also had multiple shots on the day.
Campbell put her blazing speed to good use, producing a spectacular chance for the winning goal in the third period. Gloving an attempted clear, Campbell found the puck at close range, but her shot banged off the crossbar.
In overtime, the two skaters produced another good scoring chance with a two-on-one breakaway, but as Campbell's shot rebounded to Mazzocca, her follow-up hit the side netting.
