The girls varsity tennis team closed their regular season with a statement win, beating perennial power Kingswood-Oxford 5-4 at home on May 17 to win the Founders League.
Although it was Senior Day for the two Seniors on the team (Sophie Sitinas '17 and captain Sally Kuehn '17), it was youth that led the way, with all of the points for the Bearcats (12-1) coming from Preps and Lower Mids.
Depth proved to be the strength for the home team, with wins coming in singles from #2 Grace Kennedy '19 (10-2), #3 Savannah Roberts '19 (10-0), and #4 Jennifer Li '20 (10-3).
On the doubles side, Roberts and Li combined to win at #2 doubles 8-4, and Kennedy paired with Ginny Barnes '19 to win at #3 doubles 8-2.
It was the first win for Hotchkiss over the Wyverns since 2013, and should give the team confidence heading into the upcoming New England tournament. The Bearcats are seeded #3 and will play #6 Taft in the opening round. If they win the match, they will play the winner of #2 Milton versus #7 Deerfield.
Kuehn did manage to make her return from a season-long injury for her final match, playing in the #1 doubles spot with Sara McClure '20. The duo dropped their match 8-2.
