By focusing on what we can control--effort, defense, culture--we challenge our basketball players to be the best teammates they can be. We welcome both those athletes who will play basketball in college and talented multi-sport athletes. In addition, we take great pride in being a basketball program to which JV players can aspire to contribute.
-- Steve McKibben, Head Coach, Boys Varsity Basketball
The varsity team practices and plays in Fowle Gym, a classic high school, wooden-floored court, where students, families, and fans overflow the stands, crowd the sidelines, and make so much noise that it can be difficult for anyone to hear. The Forrest E. Mars Jr. Athletic Center also boasts a fully staffed training room, a fitness center, and numerous locker rooms and team rooms.
Head coach Steve McKibben has been an assistant and a head varsity basketball coach at Hotchkiss for five years, and also serves as English teacher and Dean of Summer Programs. During his time at Hotchkiss, he has coached one NEPSAC Class A Player of the Year and six NEPSAC Class A All-Stars, and has placed a number of players at superb colleges and universities where they have continued their basketball careers.
Assistant coach Josh Hahn played at Lawrence Academy and coached at Lawrenceville, where his team won the New Jersey State Championship. At Hotchkiss, he has been involved with both the varsity and thirds boys basketball programs, as well as water polo, girls golf, and baseball.
