Girls Basketball

Athletics has long been a key component of the growth and development of young people. Students-athletes gain a deeper understanding of themselves, and thereby a better grasp on how to work with others, in a team environment. The belief in scholar-athleticism has a proud tradition here at Hotchkiss, so much so that we have a watchword for it literally engraved on our Main Building.

In the Girls Basketball program, we look to live up to this high standard. We aim to foster competitiveness and confidence in our players, and ultimately to teach our players the tough-mindedness to know that they can dig deep and succeed in difficult circumstances.

As a team, our goal each year is to vie for a Founders League title and earn a spot in the New England tournament. We are looking for dedicated, hardworking student-athletes who know what it takes to compete and win against the toughest competition.

In recent years, we have won the Founders League title and a berth in the New England Class A Tournament. We have graduates recruited to play at Brown, NYU, Gettysburg, Williams, Trinity (Harford) and other schools.
 

​The varsity team ​practices and plays in Fowle Gym, a classic high school, wooden-floored court, where students, families, and fans overflow the stands, crowd the sidelines, and make so much noise that it can be difficult for anyone to hear. The Forrest E. Mars Jr. Athletic Center also boasts a fully staffed training room, a fitness center, and numerous locker rooms and team rooms.
