Girls Soccer
Philosophy
The Hotchkiss Girls Soccer program focuses on all that it means to be part of a team that supports each other on and off the field, of belonging to the family of women who have played before them and even those yet to come. Hotchkiss girls soccer players realize they are a part of something far greater than themselves; they know that in wearing the blue and white they have the privilege to represent their school and each other with pride, sportsmanship, and inclusivity on a team where each member of the team is valued and essential.
In both the Founders and Western New England leagues, Hotchkiss teams are known for their smart, gritty and determined play. While the teams strive each year for more wins than losses, and at the varsity level for a spot in the New England tournament, we value most the relationships we build and the opportunity to play our possession style game with class and skill.
Most of our girls are multi-sport athletes, a model we believe enhances their play on all of their teams, causes less stress on the health of their bodies, and provides them with a wide range of perspectives and people.
-- Missy Wolff, Head Coach, Girls Varsity Soccer
Highlights
In the early days of our girls soccer program, Hotchkiss teams were a powerhouse, contending for and often winning the New England Championship title. As the strength and parity of the league has grown, finding our way to the tournament is a challenge we strive to achieve each year. We have qualified for the New England tournament in each of the last three years, reaching the semifinals in 2017, the quarterfinals in 2018, and the semifinals again in 2019. We will continue to work each year for the privilege to play in the postseason.
Facilities
We play on a newly refurbished grass field, one of the most beautiful natural surfaces in all of New England. It is set in a natural bowl surrounded by woodland, a space that also offers smaller adjacent fields for small-sided games and grid work. Aesthetic breaks are a unique part of our practice days, as the beauty of our setting offers up breathtaking skies, and colorful, ever-changing landscapes throughout our season. We also have access to both indoor and outdoor turf, and generally play at least one night game a year under the lights. On our warmer days we take advantage of the deepest lake in Connecticut, Lake Wononscopomuc, and can also avail ourselves both before and after school of our state-of-the-art fitness center at the Forrest E Mars, Jr. Athletic Center.
