Altieri Named Head Baseball Coach

Matt Altieri, a highly successful Connecticut high school baseball coach, will lead the Hotchkiss baseball program.

“I am looking forward to working with our baseball program in making it the best team in the Founders League,” said Altieri. “I also am looking forward to working with our student/athletes in helping them become the best players they can be.”

A veteran on the diamond and in the classroom, Altieri brings more than 30 years of coaching experience, including 25 years at Mark T. Sheehan High School in Wallingford. While at Sheehan, Altieri guided the Titans to four state championships (in 2001, 2004, 2010 and 2015).

He also coached at his alma mater, Guilford High School, and has compiled a high school baseball coaching record of 362-311 between the two schools.

Altieri has collected numerous awards during his coaching tenure, including three state coach of the year awards (in 2001, 2016, and 2020). Altieri was nominated for coach of the year by the National High School Coaches Association in 2021 and he was inducted into the Greater New Haven Diamond Club Hall of Fame in 2016.

In addition to high school, Altieri has coached at the college level at Quinnipiac University, and at the club level in the Connecticut College Baseball League.

After playing at Guilford, he went on to play in college at Southern Connecticut State University, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Altieri also taught history for 35 years between Guilford and Sheehan.

He resides in Cheshire with his wife Patricia, a fellow educator.
