Boys Golf (11-8)
The boys varsity golf team put up another two solid performances, carding their 18-hold best 401 on Wednesday. The score was good enough to beat Berkshire 401-407, but the Bearcats fell 401-378 to K-O. On Saturday, the team split another pair of matches, posting a nine-hole 194 at home, which beat Canterbury but not Avon, who shot an eye-popping 178. Coach Jason Maier gives kudos to team captain James Horrocks ’19, who shot a 73 on Wednesday, good for his sixth consecutive team low round.
Girls Tennis (9-2)
The girls varsity tennis team began with a comfortable 9-0 sweep at Miss Porter’s on Wednesday, then followed up with a key 5-4 Founders League home win over Taft on Saturday. The Bearcats swept all three doubles matches, but needed key singles wins by Ginny Barnes ’19 at #3 and Savi Roberts ’19 at #1 to clinch the match. The girls JV team split a pair of matches, winning 6-1 over the Daisies on Wednesday and falling 3-4 to Taft. Head coach Wendy Levithan gave kudos to Ava Hingson ’19, Emily Beutner ’22, and Sydnie Miller ’19 in the loss.
Boys Tennis (10-2)
The boys varsity tennis team rebounded from its first loss in nearly six weeks, a tough 2-5 decision to Deerfield on Wednesday, with a triumphant win at this year’s SNETL tournament on Saturday. The performance for the Bearcats at the event was a resounding success, with no fewer than five Hotchkiss players reaching the finals of their draws. Jerry Qiao ’22 (#3), Jack Louchheim ’20 (#5), and Max Beckwith ’21 (#6) all won their draws. Cole Maura ’19 and Clay Glovier ’20 also reached the finals of the #1 doubles draw. The boys JV team became road warriors on the week, winning 5-2 at Taft on Wednesday and winning 5-2 at Avon on Saturday. Kudos to Kevin Zhao ’20, Andrew Oliver ’20, and Federico Arengi Bentivoglio ‘22, who won their singles matches on both days.
Ultimate Frisbee (12-4)
The varsity Ultimate Frisbee team finished fourth at this year’s Connecticut state championship tournament, hosted here on campus. The team opened with wins in pool play, 8-4 over Staples HS and 8-6 over Wooster, before dropping the semifinal game 6-9 to Xavier. The team then lost its third-place game 9-11 to Choate.
