Francis Atuahene ’15 earned Team of the Week honors for his play in Week 2 for his USL Championship league team, San Diego Loyal FC.
He earned the distinction as a result of scoring both goals in the team’s 2-1 win over Tacoma Defiance on March 11. The USL season had been suspended due to COVID following the match before resuming last week.
San Diego Loyal FC is a new expansion team in the USL Championship league, which is one division below Major League Soccer in the United States. The team was co-founded by American soccer great Landon Donovan, who also manages the team.
Atuahene has played professional soccer since 2017, signing with FC Dallas of the MLS in 2018 and playing on loan for Oklahoma City, Austin, and San Diego. He also enjoyed a standout college soccer career at the University of Michigan.
