Bearcats Earn Spring Athletic Awards

Hotchkiss spring athletes earned a variety of awards and honors at a ceremony held on May 31. Watch a recording of the event above, and view a list of recipients below.

Director of Athletics Danny Smith P'18,'20,'24 kicked off the ceremony by sharing some highlights from the season, including:

  • Founders League Championships for boys varsity golf, girls varsity lacrosse, and girls varsity tennis
  • Girls varsity lacrosse winning the Founders League Tournament
  • Varsity sailing earning third place at nationals
  • Varsity Ultimate Frisbee earning third place at the Connecticut State Championship
  • Mo Nuhu ’23, Arop Arop ’23, and Paige Dzenutis ’23 being named New England Champions in track and field

Robin Chandler '87, former co-director of athletics and current communications project manager, thanked Smith for his decades of services to Hotchkiss sports. "The real legacy, the gift he gave to so many young men out on Little Baker and Sprole Field over the years, was the incredible care he took in developing his players as people—not just athletes," she said. "He has always been about character development, sportsmanship, and the true value of team, and he ranks those well above wins and losses. These are the best lessons our students can learn in life, and each fall Danny taught this master class."

Hotchkiss appointed Dempsey Quinn as the new director of athletics, effective July 1.
