Boys Cross Country Finishes Fourth

A superlative season for the boys cross country program ended with a fourth-place finish at the New England championships on Nov. 13.

The varsity boys finished with 124 points, good for fourth overall behind Deerfield, NMH, and champion Exeter, who dominated the field with only 28 points, nearly 50 points ahead of NMH.

Leading the way for Hotchkiss was Ciaran Groom ’24 (11th at 16:41), followed by Huck Whittemore ’22 (16th at 17:07), Owen Zinn-Keane ’22 (20th at 17:17), John Coffin ’24 (31st at 17:39), Axel Nzi ’24 (46th at 18:05), Ben Johnson ’22 (86th at 19:00), and Oliver Johnson ’25 (93rd at 19:34).

It was the team’s fourth consecutive top-four finish at New Englands.

Backing up their win the previous week at Founders, the boys JV team also turned in a laudable performance, finishing fifth overall. Nolan Jennings ’24 (11th at 18:34) was best placed for the Bearcats, followed by Chase Dobson, ’23 Phil Warren ’23, Thomas Hutson-Wiley ’23, Elliot Marken ’24, Marston Lufkin ’23, and Evan Huang ’25.

The girls varsity team was led once again by Daphne Barrett ’24, who finished 25th at 21:02. Also racing for Hotchkiss were Kayla Uzwiak ’22, Grace Gordon ’24, Darina Huang ’23, Christa Prasertsintanah ’23, Alessandra Griffin ’25, and Nicole Ocampo Montoya ’23.

The team scored 277 points for 11th place overall.

The girls JV team ran a remarkably consistent race as a team, with all five runners finishing within 11 places of each other. Zoe London ’22 was best placed for Hotchkiss in 51st place at 25:25).
