Boys Cross Country Opens with Wins

Both the varsity and junior varsity boys cross country teams notched decisive wins in their home opening races against Salisbury on Sep. 18.

Led by overall race winner Huck Whittemore ’22 (16:58), the varsity captured seven of the top eight places for a 18-45 victory. Also scoring for Hotchkiss were Ciaran Groom ’24 (2nd at 17:00), Owen Zinn-Keane (4th at 18:14), Oliver Johnson (5th at 18:33), John Coffin ’24 (6th at 19:05), Ben Johnson ’22 (7th at 20:13) and Phil Warren ’23 (8th at 20:27).

The junior varsity also produced even stronger results – also finishing with seven of the top eight racers and all five of the top JV racers. Leading the way for the JV was Chase Dobson ’23 with a time of 21:00. Head coach Pierre Yoo gave kudos to many runners for their improvements from the previous week, especially Matteo Hottenrott ’24, who improved his personal best by more than five minutes.

Next up for the varsity will be the Canterbury Invitational this weekend.
