The boys varsity golf team ended their season on a high note, posting a team-record low score of 181 on the Hotchkiss course on May 15.
Jesper Snow ’22 and Nick Astorian ’22 led the way for the Bearcats, both posting 1-under-par scores of 34. Jacob Chui ’21, Christian Waldron ’23, and Jackson Neeb ’23 filled out the card with scores of 37, 37, and 39, respectively. Andrew Yang ’21 shot a 42 on the day.
Head coach Jason Maier reported that this was the first time in his tenure as head coach that two players had shot under par in the same round.
“The team had spoken earlier in the season about breaking the team record and I knew for that to happen everything would have to click into place perfectly,” said Maier. “The atmosphere was kind of electric. As each player's official score was announced, they were all greeted by their teammates as if they had hit a walk-off home run.”
The result augurs well for future competition, with only one of the five scoring players graduating. “The fact that so many players from this match are returning next year is giving us a lot of confidence as we head into next season,” said Maier.
