The first period saw three goals from Deerfield at 13:32, 5:17, and 1:50. The period was a competitive one despite the goals from Deerfield. Hotchkiss had several chances and good  defense overall. The period was very physical on both sides, with hits all over the ice. During the first Deerfield goal, Hotchkiss committed a penalty, leaving them a man down after the goal. The Hotchkiss defense was strong, not letting Deerfield take advantage of the extra man. The period continued with teams battling each other, searching for a breakthrough. It was Deerfield that would break through, scoring again at 5:17. They did it again late in the period, scoring with 1:50 left, and the period ended with Deerfield up 3-0.

The second period saw the physicality continue, with Deerfield committing four penalties early in the period. Hotchkiss wasn’t able to take advantage of any of these opportunities, however, and the first goal of the period went to Deerfield, with a goal scored with 8:38 left in the period. Hotchkiss committed a penalty a couple minutes later that Deerfield took advantage of scoring again at 5:25

The third period was back and forth. Both sides had chances that were unsuccessful. A pair of penalties late in the period resulted in 4 on 4 action, and just seconds after the penalties expired Alex Shtohryn ’24 scored the first goal of the game for Hotchkiss with 3:35 left. With not much time left to comeback, Hotchkiss put the pressure on in hopes for more goals, but none would come, and Deerfield broke through for a final time, scoring with just 38 seconds left in the game to end it 6-1.

Although the result was not what Hotchkiss wanted, the team showed grit and competitiveness throughout the game. They will hope to bounce back in their next game away against Choate.
