The boys varsity swim team placed first in eight events en route to a comfortable 101-76 home victory over Avon in their season opener on Dec. 1.

The day got off to a promising start with a first and third finish in the 200-yard medley relay, with the quartet of Jeffrey Lim ’21, Zach Scrima ’22, Chris Tolis ’21, and Alex Cherenkov ’21 leading the way for Hotchkiss with a time of 1:23.

In addition to his relay win, Lim grabbed second in the 200-yard IM and first in the 100-yard butterfly.

Leo Poggi ’20 and Thomas Getman ’19 put on a strong performance in the longer-distance events, sweeping the top two places in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.

In the shorter events, William Wildish ’21 was the standout performer, winning both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.

Tolis, Wildish, Poggi, and Cherenkov also teamed to win the 200-yard freestyle relay. The final event win of the day came in the breaststroke, where Scrima and Carter Levine ’22 grabbed the top two places.

The win is the fourth in four years for Hotchkiss over the Beavers. The Bearcats will have a break from competition now and will resume after Winter Break when they host Hopkins on Jan. 12.
