Here's a recap of the boys varsity tennis team's recent play this weekend at the Kingswood-Oxford Invitational Tennis Tournament, courtesy of varsity head coach Sam King:

The Hotchkiss boys' varsity tennis team traveled to Kingswood Oxford for an all-weekend invitational tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The Bearcats posted a fourth place finish among a talented field of eight teams. 

Jerry Qiao '22 was a standout in the #2 singles draw, earning a win over Jin from Groton 6-0, 6-2 and a hard-fought semifinal victory against Mody from Choate 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. The freshman fell in the finals to Decker, a talented senior from Lawrenceville, in a one-sided 6-0, 6-0 contest. 

In the #1 singles draw, Clay Glovier '20 rebounded from a tight 6-4, 6-3 loss to Deerfield's Auesperg to earn consolation wins against Coletti from Choate, 8-4, and Mukhametkulov from Westminster, 8-3. 

Aidan Dove '20 opened with a victory in the #3 singles draw against Sonntag from Kingswood Oxford 6-1, 6-2 before facing a powerful lefty from Lawrenceville, Friedland, falling 6-1, 6-3. 

Jack Louchheim started off the tournament strong in the #4 singles bracket with a 6-0, 6-0 victory versus Jacob from Hall. He then rushed out to a quick start in his subsequent match against Yao from Deerfield, but his opponent found his composure and rallied for the second set and decisive super-tiebreaker to earn a 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 win.

Aidan Dove '20 and Max Beckwith '21 competed hard but came up short against a stellar #1 doubles team from Groton, Kandel and Trigg, falling 6-3, 6-1. They were then bested in the consolation draw by Choate's #1 tandem Coletti and Mody by an 8-1 margin.

At #2 doubles, Jack Louchheim '20 and Jerry Qiao '22 opened with a commanding performance against Taylor and Maturama of Hall, prevailing 6-0, 6-2. They then faced Na and McCargo of Westminster in the semifinals, starting off with strong returning and net play to earn the first set 6-4. The Westminster pair continued to battle, however, and climbed back to net a 6-3 second set and a commanding 10-3 win in the final super-tiebreaker.

The Bearcats (1-1) return to action on Wednesday as they host conference rival Taft for a 2:30 p.m. tilt.
