Boys Tennis Serving Up Sweeps

by Roger Wistar

The boys varsity tennis team won its third and fourth matches in a row in convincing fashion over the weekend, with a 6-0 sweep of Kent on Friday April 21 and a 7-0 sweep of Trinity-Pawling on Saturday April 22.

Writes head coach Sam King of the Kent match: "The Bearcats took an early lead in doubles play, sweeping matches to secure the doubles point. Will Muse '21 led the charge in singles play, using assertive baseline shots to pull away for a 6-3, 6-3 win at #6. Cole Maura '19 followed suit with a straight-set victory at #1, before Blake Cilmi '19 rattled off a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win at #5. Aidan Dove '20 held on for a tight 6-4, 6-3 win against a crafty lefty opponent, before Andrey Von Emme '18 pulled away for a 6-1, 6-2 result."

Saturday's match yielded similar results, with the doubles pairs of Maura and von Emme, Cilmi and Jack Louchheim '20, and Dove and Andrew Oliver '20 all winning their doubles matches by a combined score of 24-1. The Bearcats followed up with six singles victories in straight sets, including Louchheim at #3 and Oliver at #6.

The Bearcats look to keep the momentum going with another home match on Wednesday against Westminster at 3:00 p.m.
