Cudney '20 Breaks 50 Free Record

by Roger Wistar

Jillian Cudney '20 set a new record in the 50-yard freestyle event in a win over Kent on Feb. 14.

Her time of 23.81 seconds broke the old school record of 23.88 set by Kaitlyn McCaw '15 in 2013. The record-setting race came as part of a dominant 128-52 victory over the Lions that helped run the Hotchkiss girls swimming and diving team record this season to 7-3.

It was the second new record of the season for Cudney, who also broke the school record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.48 seconds back on Jan. 20.

Including last season, Cudney now has captured three school records in freestyle (the 50-yard, 100-yard, and 200-yard events). She has already established herself as a prominent member of the team, with two wins at Founders last season and two top-three finishes at New Englands.

After Saturday's final dual meet against Choate, the Bearcats will prepare to host Founders next weekend and then will travel to Exeter for the New England championships on March 3.
