On Oct. 10, the varsity field hockey team allowed only one shot en route to a 3-0 shutout of visiting Berkshire.
For the Bearcats (4-0-1), forward Nia Butler ‘21 scored a goal, assisted by captain Bella Pugliese ‘20. The other goal scorers were Meagan Campbell ‘21 and Maggie Hatch ‘21.
Due in large part to the Bearcats’ defense, Hotchkiss outshot Berkshire 17-1. The Bearcats’ formidable defense also allowed for them to control a majority of possession time. There were a total of 17 Hotchkiss corners, while Berkshire was unable to take one of their own.
The Bearcats lead 2-0 at the end of the first half, taking 13 shots through 30 minutes. The Bearcats came out firing, with Hatch connecting for a goal with the first shot of the game in the fourth minute. Butler’s goal arrived in the 17th minute.
To start the second half, Campbell quickly scored her second goal in the 31st minute. Berkshire possessed the ball for an extended stretch early in the half, generating a scoring opportunity.
The Bearcats seek to get their fifth win against Northfield Mount Hermon on Oct. 5, their third road game of the season.
