Girls Golf Wins Founders
Girls Golf Wins 18-19 Founders Title

Another successful season for the girls varsity golf team came to a triumphant close with a Founders League championship at the season-ending tournament on Wednesday May 22.

Led by Daphne Chao ’20, who shot an even-par round of 37, the Bearcats (14-3-1) edged out Loomis by a single stroke, 171 to 172. The win was an upset of sorts for Hotchkiss, as the Pelicans entered the tournament undefeated and had beaten the Bearcats pretty decisively in both of their head-to-head meetings this season.

The format of the tournament, hosted by Taft, had each school enter six golfers for a nine-hole round, with the team score including the best four rounds among the six played. Also scoring for Hotchkiss were Lily Yang ’21 (41), Sami Thomas ’19 (46), and Annabelle Ackerly ’20 (47). Eliza Dana ’22 and Claire Kim ’20 also competed for the Bearcats.

The win comes on the heels of another strong outing by the team at last Monday’s Pippi O’Connor tournament, where they finished third behind Chao’s 4-under-par round of 70, which led the entire field.

Head coach David Bolmer gave kudos to captain Thomas and his other seniors Ellie Farrington ’19 and Zoe Bank ’19 for their leadership, and looked forward to next season, where as many as six players could return for the Bearcats.
