The varsity girls lacrosse team defeated Taft 20-4 to capture the first-ever Founders League tournament at home on May 25.
The tournament win gives the Bearcats (15-1) a pair of accolades this season, as they had already captured the regular-season title with an undefeated run through the Founders League.
The Hotchkiss attack proved especially effective on the day, scoring their 20 goals on just 22 total shots on goal. Leading the way for the Bearcats was Jami Macdonald ’22 with five goals, including a highlight-reel shot behind her back midway through the first half.
Also scoring for Hotchkiss were Avery Doran ’24 (4 goals), Ellie Traggio ’22 (3), Charlotte Dorman ’25 (2), MaryHelen McCooey ’25, Jordyn Harrison ’22, and Eleanor Helm ’25.
Goalies Jordan Healy ’22 and Zoe Froimovitz ’24 split time in net, saving five of nine shots by the Rhinos.
The home team got off to a fast start, scoring nearly a goal per minute to open up a 10-1 lead at the 10:23 mark of the first half. After a Taft goal stopped the Bearcat run, Macdonald and Doran each added another goal to give Hotchkiss a 13-2 halftime lead.
The second half saw more of the same, with six different Hotchkiss players combining for seven total goals, including two by Traggio. Helm provided the fireworks in the half with a nifty shot, a sidearm shot underneath the stick of the Taft goalie from close range.
