Hotchkiss Girls Squash Wins Sportsmanship Award

The girls varsity squash team received the Nishad Das Team Sportsmanship Award for their play this season, which concluded on Feb. 24 with a sixth place finish at the New England championships.

The award is voted on by all other Class A schools and is given to the team that demonstrates the best sportsmanship throughout the season. This year’s squad of Elissa Ito ’19, Ellie Burke ’20, Julia Chai ’20, Mitra Kardestuncer ’20, Yitong Wu ’20, Tina Deng ’21, Nina Flinn ’21, Makayla Oas ’21, and coaches Tyler Gardner and Ashley Suan received the award at the event, held this year at Choate.

Each of the seven girls competing at the event, which splits teams into seven seeded draws, won at least one match. Burke placed highest with a fourth-placed finish at the #2 seed, winning her first two matches of the tournament. Oas also placed in the top eight with a seventh-place finish at #3, winning three of five matches.

Kardestuncer rallied back from an opening-match defeat to win three of four matches for a ninth-place finish at #4. Flinn and Ito placed eighth at #5 and #6, respectively, and Chai and Wu earned tenth-place finishes at the #1 and #7 seeds.
