Girls Varsity Basketball took a crushing 46-49 loss against Choate on Wednesday night, despite mounting a late comeback and forcing the game to overtime. This brings their overall season record to 15-2 and ends their 14-game unbeaten streak.

In an overly defensive first quarter neither team could find the momentum to score. However, Morgan Jenkins ‘25 finished with a clean jumpshot as Hotchkiss went into the break down 5-7. Despite Hotchkiss’s promising start and glimpses of quality, Choate extended their lead to 7, going into halftime with a 14-21 lead. However, Hotchkiss was anything but down and out.

Within 2 minutes of the 3rd quarter, Hotchkiss closed the lead to just 4 points as Angel Allen ‘24 got to the rim with 2 crafty lay-ups, ultimately finishing the game with 7 total points. Maya Bateau ‘24 also had a particularly important performance in the quarter, scoring 6 or her 11 total points for the night. Choate responded with a couple strong blows of their own and the 3rd quarter ultimately finished 26-34.

In the 3rd quarter, Kaila Richards ‘25, already having an impressive game, scored 6 points in a matter of minutes. Jenkins then tied the game up at 34 with a tidy finish inside the paint. With less than 19 seconds left in the game, Hotchkiss had grabbed a 41-38 lead, but Choate promptly sank a three-pointer from the left corner to bring the game into overtime.

In overtime the game remained within one possession until the final minute with Richards and Jenkins continuing to work their magic. However, Choate ultimately won the game at the foul line.

Hotchkiss gets ready to play Deerfield Saturday, February 18th at the ESAC Tournament. Considering that Hotchkiss beat them 76-44 in a blowout win just over a month ago, we should be back to our winning ways in no time.
