Hotchkiss to Host Elite Squash Exhibition

Hotchkiss will stage an exhibition match between two of the top squash players in the country in celebration of World Squash Day on Oct. 10.

Organized by Director of Squash Bobby Burns, the match will pit the top-ranked American player, Amanda Sobhy (ranked #5 in the world) against Olivia Fichter, ranked #3 nationally and #20 in the world.

“I think it's very much a celebration of squash at the school,” said Burns. “By bringing pros of this caliber to the school, we are not only celebrating our programs’ talent, but also putting on display just how cool the sport is!”

The players will also conduct a Q&A session throughout the match, as well as offering two hours of clinics to Hotchkiss players in attendance.

Burns was able to make connections with both players during his time as a professional squash player and coach before coming to Hotchkiss. Sobhy and Fichter are close friends and training partners in Philadelphia, making for a natural pairing at the event, he said.

With limited seating in the Cullman Squash Center, attendance will be offered to ticketed guests. All profits from the event will be reinvested in the squash program.

All those interested in attending should contact Burns for ticketing information.

Burns said he hoped the event would inspire both veteran players and those new to the sport. I hope they’ll have an amazing memory associated with Squash. I want Hotchkiss Squash to be the place where the seed was planted that squash might be worth a try someday,” he said.
