Nortey ’11 Featured by Football Club

James “C” Nortey ’11 has been recently featured in a full profile and audio podcast for work with his Danish football club, FC Nordsjælland.

The profile article chronicles Nortey’s journey from his hometown of Accra, Ghana to Hotchkiss, and later to Marquette University and into professional football. Nortey came to Hotchkiss from the Right to Dream Academy, and enjoyed great success while in Lakeville.

In the first-person article, entitled “The Fight”, Nortey discusses how he grew up fighting for survival, but through Right to Dream and Hotchkiss, transformed into a young man who strove to stand up for himself and develop the skills that were important to him.

At Hotchkiss, in addition to his existing love of football, Nortey developed into an accomplished dancer, earning school prizes in dance in three of his four years. He also earned the Theodore Newlin Prize and the Charles Denton Treadway ’14 Prize, in addition to several athletic awards.

Now at his club FC Nordsjælland, Nortey serves as the Character Development Coach, working with the younger players that are attached to the team.

“Character development for us is creating a platform where our boys and girls can first rediscover themselves in the simplest way,” write Nortey in the profile. “They have to understand their own values and the things that drives them. Only then can they play a bigger role in society.”
