Okonwko ’25, Venkatesan ’23 win Doubles Championship

Oscar Okonkwo ’25 and Callan Venkatesan ’23 won the 2022 U.S. Junior Squash Doubles Championship this past weekend.

Competing in the Under-19 draw, the pair finished undefeated in the round-robin tournament, which included four other doubles teams. The event was held April 29 to May 1 in Philadelphia at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center.

Fellow teammate John Nicholson ’22 finished in second place at the event with his partner Thomas Soltanian. They enjoyed a 3-1 record, with their only loss coming to Okonkwo and Venkatesan.

Okonwko and Venkatesan enjoyed a great deal of success at the event, finishing with an overall record of 12-4 across all games played. The biggest drama came in their match against Philip Hyun and Zachary Idinopulos, where they rallied in five games for a 15-6, 11-15, 8-15, 15-11, 15-14 victory.

This season, the trio helped lead Hotchkiss to a 10-2 record and a fifth-place finish at Nationals, with Venkatesan playing at #1, Nicholson playing at #2, and Okonkwo playing at #4.
