Chapman Petersen ’22 will represent his country when he sails this winter at the 2021 Youth Sailing World Championships.

At the event, held Dec. 11-18 in Al-Mussanah, Oman, Petersen will be one of only 16 sailors to race for Team USA. The event allows each country to submit one entry for each class, and Petersen will be competing in the Male One Person Dinghy class.

The event will cap a banner year for the senior from Wisconsin. Just last month, Petersen finished second at the International Laser Class Association Youth World Championships. He also won the U.S. ILCA National Championship and two events in the U.S. Open Sailing Series.

“Youth Worlds is a really special event as it showcases the best youth talent worldwide. “All of our modern-day heroes were once Youth Worlds champions, so we look to this next generation to make their mark,” said U.S. Team Leader Phil Muller, recipient of the 2020 US Sailing Developmental Coach of the Year award, in a release from the team.
