Petersen ’22 Repeats at US Youth Sailing Championships

Another major regatta brought another title for Chapman Petersen in the year 2021, as he defended his title at the U.S. Youth Sailing Championships on Oct. 8-11.

Competing in his usual Laser Radial class, Petersen finshed first in a crowded field of 66 boats, the largest of the four classes competing at the event. Over the course of eight races, Petersen finished first or second in every race but one, for a net score of 10 points.

The event was held in Arapahoe, North Carolina, and Petersen led at the end of each day of sailing. He repeated his title from 2019, the last time the event was staged (with last year’s regatta canceled due to COVID).

Petersen adds to a growing list of top finishes this year, including a win at the NESSA Single Handed Championship and a second-place finish at the ILCA Youth World Championships.

He will compete at the Youth Sailing World Championships in December.
