Chapman Petersen ’22 cruised to another title in 2019, winning the NESSA Single Handed Championship in the Radial class on Oct. 6.
Petersen dominated the field of 11 sailors, finishing with 14 points, less than half the total of the runner-up from Brunswick. Even more impressively, he finished the 11-race series with nine wins, one second-place finish, and one third-place finish.
With the win, Petersen also qualifies with two other sailors to represent the New England region at the ISSA Cressy singlehanded championships in Santa Barbara, CA on Nov. 2-3.
The regatta, hosted by Hyannis YC, took place over two days, with the sailors completing only three races on Saturday and another eight races on Sunday. The race report notes that the sailors faced gusty wind conditions on Sunday.
Also representing Hotchkiss at the event were John Eastman ’20, who won the second race and finished in the top half of the field in every race, and Jeb Bechtel ’22, who recorded two fourth-place finishes and three fifth-place finishes in the first six races.
