Diversity & Inclusion | Admissions and Multicultural Outreach

Over the past five years, Hotchkiss has increased the percentage of people of color among newly entering students to 41% from approximately 30%. We have launched bold programming around the recruitment of students of color, strengthened relationships with community-based organizations, and opened new channels of communication with talented students and their families. This work has also been expanded to drive swifter progress among first-generation students (whose parents did not attend college) and Native American students.

The goal of the Admissions Office is to find, engage with, and enroll the most capable young people in the country and around the world and make it possible for them to attend Hotchkiss regardless of their circumstances. In the fall of 2021, Imani Majied joined the Office of Admission and Financial Aid as our new Director of Multicultural Outreach.

The Hotchkiss student body represents students from 37 U.S. states and territories and 29 countries. More than 57% of our students hail from outside of New York and Connecticut. Every year, our applicant pool reflects the breadth and diversity of the United States and the World.

Erby Mitchell | Hotchkiss

“As a mission-driven institution, the students we teach are as important as what we teach them. Who they are very directly affects who we are as a whole, what we stand for, and the relevance of our institution.”

– Erby Mitchell P ’21, Dean of Admission and Financial Aid
