The summer Piano Portals Program celebrates its fifth year anniversary with a gala performance on July 22, 7:30 p.m., in Katherine M. Elfers Hall, Esther Eastman Music Center. The concert honors Frederick Frank'50, a former board member and chairman of the Board of Trustees, and his wife, Mary Tanner Frank. The performance features Piano Program Director and Head of the Visual and Performing Arts Department, Fabio Witkowski, and his wife, Gisele, instructor in piano. Joining them are the acclaimed chamber music group, Fine Arts Quartet. The concert is free and open to the public.
Over the past five years, the Piano Portals program has accepted young pianists on the basis of merit from 15 countries across North and South America, Asia, and Europe, engaging a diverse group of exceptionally musical young people. Each year, an increasing number of applicants compete for a place in the program. Thirty students were selected for admission from a pool of approximately 250 for this year's session.
