For Summer Portals Parents

Each student is required to have a Hotchkiss School One Card, as it serves as his or her photo ID and dorm access card. Internal school purchases can also be made with the Hotchkiss School One Card, a multipurpose debit card that covers most of your student’s incidental and personal spending at the School. The Hotchkiss School One Card may also be used for the laundry machines in the dorms. Most School vendors will accept cash and checks, but we strongly advise that students use the debit card.
The Hotchkiss One Card System allows parents to control the amount of funds available to students, and students can deposit their own funds for future withdrawal. We believe this system gives students a valuable and realistic experience with handling money (without handling cash) and offers parents greater control over a student’s miscellaneous spending.
The balance on The Hotchkiss School One Card at the end of the program will be returned to the student in cash before their departure from campus. The Summer Portals Office will email the student account number used as the student ID on the One Card website about a week before the start of Summer Portals.
Before arriving on campus, download the Summer Portals Student Handbook. All students and parents are expected to read the handbook well in advance of arriving on campus.
