Hotchkiss Dramatic Association Presents George Orwell's '1984' April 26 - 28 in the Black Box Theater

*Please note the production is not suitable for viewers under the age of 12.

The Hotchkiss Dramatic Association is pleased to present George Orwell’s 1984, on stage April 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. and April 28 at 2:30 p.m. Adapted for the stage by Robert Owens, Wilton E. Hall, Jr. and William A. Miles, Jr., the production is directed by Derek Brashears, director of the theatre program at Hotchkiss.

1984 is a cautionary, dystopian tale of a society devolved into a propaganda driven surveillance state where freedom of will and freedom of thought are criminal acts. In George Orwell’s own words:  "I do not believe that the kind of society I describe necessarily will arrive, but I believe that something resembling it could arrive. The moral to be drawn from the dangerous nightmare situation is a simple one: Don't let it happen. It depends on you."

All performances take place in the intimate Black Box Theater. Please note the production is not suitable for viewers under 12 due to scenes of simulated physical violence and mental distress for the characters. Tickets are $10; $5 for students and seniors. Cash or check is accepted and patrons may buy tickets at the door; no reservations are necessary. The Sunday matinee performance will benefit a charitable organization to be announced.

Founded in 1891, The Hotchkiss School is a coeducational boarding school, located at 11 Interlaken Road in Lakeville, Connecticut. The Black Box Theater is located on the lower level of the main building. For more information on this and other arts events at The Hotchkiss School call 860-435-4423.
