Leah Settipane ’12 has been named to the 2020 U.S. Women’s National Development Team in field hockey.

She is one of only 23 athletes selected to the team, based on their performances at a USWNT trial held earlier this month in Lancaster, PA. Settipane joins athletes from the 2019 USWNT, the 2019 Young Women’s National Championship, and athletes recommended by their college coaches.

The U.S. Women’s National Development Team “accounts for the transitional phase between the U-21 USWNT and the senior USWNT. Several of the trial attendees recently completed their final college season and are no longer permitted to be on the junior team due to age restrictions,” according to a release from USA Field Hockey.

Settipane currently serves as a volunteer assistant coach with the University of Delaware Blue Hens after completing a year in 2018 at her alma mater, Boston College.

During her four years with the Eagles, Settipane was a rock in the net. She finished her career as the school’s all-time wins leader (48), as well as finishing third in career saves (469), ninth in save percentage (.750), and sixth in goals-against-average (1.88).

Settipane also garnered numerous accolades while at BC, including second-team All-American honors in 2015 and second-team All-ACC honors in 2014.

She enjoyed a brief but similarly distinguished career at Hotchkiss, helping to lead the Bearcats to the 2011 New England field hockey championship, winning tournament MVP honors. She also had standout seasons with the basketball and track teams. She received the Carole S. Hawley ’75 Field Hockey Award and the Goss Athletic Award for her efforts.
