Bienvenue au Québec

Eighteen third-year French students and their instructors travelled to Québec City over a long January weekend to immerse themselves in the French culture, language, and food. From the moment they departed Main Circle on Jan. 12 until their return on Jan. 16, students were committed to speaking only in French. They stayed with host families, with whom they shared meals, watched televised hockey games, and took part in lively discussions.

During the day, the group went on guided visits in Québec City, where they enjoyed riding an ice-breaker ferry across the St. Lawrence River, visited museums, watched an historical reenactment, listened to folk music, and went sledding down snowy slopes at a winter park.

“Yes, it was very cold again this year, but the group was incredibly positive,” said Sarinda Wilson, who teaches French 380 this year. “They supported one another in meeting the challenge of the French language pledge and took full advantage of our short, but jam-packed two days in Québec City. Once again, we are very proud of our students and happy for the personal pride they felt upon completing this challenging learning adventure.”
