It was a joy to welcome families back to campus for Family Weekend. Over three days, parents and guardians joined their students for classes, performances, meals, and conversations that showcased the energy and warmth of the Hotchkiss community.

The weekend opened with a dinner for families and students on Thursday, Oct. 9. Ford Food Court was filled with music from a cappella groups Calliope and Blue Notes, as well as student band MB140. A delicious dessert reception followed for parents that featured local apple and cheese pairings with some sweet treats.

Families enjoyed full days of activities on Friday and Saturday. Parents met with advisors, joined classes, and gained fresh insights on the college admission process thanks to a thoughtful discussion between Jeff Selingo, New York Times bestselling author of Who Gets In and Why and Dream School, and Director of College Advising Serena Oh Castellano. (Parents, log into Veracross to watch a recording of the talk.)

"“It’s been a good and happy fall," Head of School Craig W. Bradley told families during his welcome remarks. "The students are doing good work and throwing themselves into all aspects of School life. It’s been very positive.”

Afternoons brought opportunities to cheer on the Bearcats in home games, visit the Tremaine Art Gallery, or relax over tea with the Hotchkiss BIPOC Parent Network and international families. Friday evening featured a rehearsal of the Hotchkiss Dramatic Association's upcoming production of Pippin, student performances in Elfers Hall, and time to stargaze at the Observatory. On Saturday, morning, parents learned about Hotchkiss in the World travel programs and athletic trips.

Throughout the weekend, the energy was unmistakable: laughter in the Ford Food Court, handshakes in the hallways, and conversations that reminded everyone what it means to be part of Hotchkiss. These moments reflect the sense of belonging that defines the School.

Families, thank you for traveling to Lakeville to be with us. We hope you enjoyed sharing meals, watching performances, attending classes, cheering on teams, and seeing what makes Hotchkiss feel like home.
