In September of 2019, Head of School Craig Bradley led a delegation of students and faculty members to the University of Chicago’s “Conference on Freedom of Expression and Open Discourse in High School.” During an All-School meeting on Oct. 22, conference participants Felix Bao '21 and Tom Drake, director of the Center for Global Understanding and Independent Thinking, announced the implementation of the “Chicago Principles” for civil discourse to assist in discussions during the presidential election period.
As part of the official launch, students were asked to view the Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma and write a brief response to the question: What are the implications of the film for democracy in general and for the upcoming US election in particular? The responses will be used in conversations in advisory groups on Nov. 4.
