Naima Johnson ’24 has been selected as a Gates Scholar, one of the most prestigious and competitive scholarships in the country. She is one of 750 Scholars chosen from a pool of more than 53,000 applicants.
The Gates Scholarship, established by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, recognizes exceptional minority students who represent the pinnacle of academic achievement, service, and commitment.
Gates Scholars receive funding for the full cost of attendance to earn a bachelor’s degree. Naima plans to study global and comparative literature at Georgetown University this fall.
"I feel extremely honored and blessed to have been selected as a Gates Scholar! I'm so excited to be a part of the Gates community, and I look forward to making lifelong connections through the network,” Naima said.
In addition to funding Naima’s undergraduate education, the Gates Scholarship will help her continue to hone her leadership skills, prepare for professional life, and start building an enduring network of fellow Scholars and other distinguished individuals. She will also have access to a range of support services, including mentoring, leadership development, wellness, career guidance, internship and job opportunities, and more.
