Jared Hurst ‘24 recently appeared in a commercial produced for the Global Warming Mitigation Project, a nonprofit based in Aspen, CO, whose mission is to identify, activate and accelerate projects and programs worldwide that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase carbon uptake.
The commercial is part of an effort by the Global Warming Mitigation Project to advocate for climate change in the context of the upcoming presidential election. The piece is intended to inform and influence through a bi-partisan call to action.
Jared has acted in local theatre in his hometown of Aspen, but this was his first appearance in a film commercial. His spot for the commercial was filmed on campus in September outside of Elfers Hall, overlooking Lake Wononscopomuc.
“It felt awkward to speak to a camera and I was relatively nervous. I kept my mind set on my lines in order for the scene to look natural,” he said.
"For those who see this commercial, it is very important. For the 2020 election we must vote, and send this country in the right direction. We continue to stand by and watch the earth fall apart... this is our opportunity to force change,” he said.
"Our country is struggling in many ways, including climate change.”
The Global Warming Mitigation Project is currently working with local news stations in various states across the country to air the 30-second spot.
Most of the young people appearing in the commercial are local Aspenites and have performed in professional productions at Theatre Aspen. Jared has acted in two productions for Theatre Aspen.
